Berhampur: Even as Ganjam continues to remain the hotspot of COVID-19 in Odisha, the basic guidelines to prevent the spread of coronavirus are being flouted by some people putting other’s lives at stake.
A video that has gone viral in the social media reveals a wedding throwing all the norms to the wind. While the groom is seen in the video going in a decked up car in a procession, people are dancing to the tune of DJ songs blaring in the background.
None of the participants in the procession is seen wearing face maks nor maintaining social distancing.
According to sources, the marriage took place in a 5-star hotel at Gopalpur in Ganjam district in a lavish manner. The function was organised by the owner of a big hotel in Berhampur.
The Ganjam administration later tweeted that Rs 50,000 fine has been collected and an FIR filed against both the parties. The car has also been impounded by RTO, it added.
Ganjam registered 216 new corona positive cases, taking the total to 2066, while three people succumbed to COVID-19 on Saturday, according to official sources.
