No Internet Here: Teachers Hold Classes Under Tree In Rural Odisha

Sambalpur: Teachers in the Sambalpur district here are taking classes under a tree across the villages under an alternative learning and mentorship programme by the state SC and ST Development, Minorities and Backward Classes Welfare Department.

Since schools across the country have started giving online education to the students amid the nationwide lockdown, the remote areas could not implement it successfully due to connectivity issues.

Therefore, under the scheme, the state government has appointed 116 teachers to teach students of over 2000 villages across the state, District Welfare Officer, Gitansu Mohan Dash told the media.

As per the schedule, the teachers take classes on rotation basis in the villages while maintaining social distancing in the classrooms. The students are taught various subjects as well as given lessons on tackling coronavirus infections.

The SC and ST development department owns over 12 High Schools in the district. Besides, there are 150 Primary and Upper Primary schools.
