Bhubaneswar: The Ministry of Defence on Friday re-shared its earlier advisory against live coverage or real-time reporting of defence operations and movement of security forces, amid soaring tensions between India and Pakistan and fears of a wider conflict.
In a message to media channels, digital platforms and individuals on X, the Ministry said that disclosure of such sensitive or source-based information may jeopardise operational effectiveness and endanger lives.
It cited examples of Kargil war, the Mumbai terror attacks of 26/11, and the hijacking of Indian Airlines flight IC-814 in Kandahar when “unrestricted coverage had unintended adverse consequences on national interests”.
As per clause 6(1)(p) of the Cable Television Networks (Amendment) Rules, 2021, only periodic briefings by designated officials are permitted during anti-terror operations. “All stakeholders are urged to exercise vigilance, sensitivity, and responsibility in coverage, upholding the highest standards in the service of the nation,” it added.
