Bhubaneswar: BJP MP Sambit Patra on Saturday strongly objected to use of ‘Jagannath Dham’ by the West Bengal government for the newly-inaugurated shrine in the seaside town of Digha.
“There is only one Jagannath Dham in the world and it is in Puri. There are four Dhams in India, and Puri is one among them. There should be no doubt that no other place can be called Jagannath Dham. Shreekhetra or Puroshttam Kestra is only in Puri where the Lord resides,” he told a presser.
Patra, who is also an MP from Puri, added that he would wait for the investigation report of the temple administration.

Earlier in the day, Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan claimed that the naming the newly-constructed temple in Digha as ‘Jagannath Dham’ was an attempt by the West Bengal government to create confusion.
The Odisha government has directed Chief Administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple, Arabinda Padhee, to conduct an internal inquiry into the naming of Digha Temple as ‘Jagannath Dham’, the participation of Puri Temple sevayats in the consecration ceremony, and the use of “Daru Katha” for idol construction.

It also mentioned that “conflicting information over Jagannath culture” had hurt the sentiments of devotees and 4.5 crore Odia people.
