Bhubaneswar: There is no possibility of heavy rain in Odisha till next week, said India Meteorological Department (IMD) in a release here on Wednesday.
“As the low pressure formed over the north-west Bay of Bengal has weakened, there is no possibility of heavy rainfall in Odisha till next week. Some places may witness sporadic and light rainfall,” Director, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, HR Biswas told the media here.
However, there is a possibility of a change in the weather conditions on August 25 afternoon with heavy rain at one or two places in Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Jajpur districts .
He also informed that the Kandhamal district received 106 mm rainfall in the last 30 hours.
Following heavy rainfall in the upper catchments of Mahanadi river, the authorities of the Hirakud Dam have opened seven gates as the water level had gone up to 619.87 feet by 6 pm on Tuesday.
While the inflow of water to the reservoir was 1,51,682 cusecs of water per second, the outflow was 1,23,082 cusecs per second of which 1,09,599 cusecs per second was released through the seven gates.
The maximum capacity of the reservoir is 630 feet.
