No Teaching MBBS In Odia, Says Medical Edu Body
New Delhi: Going against the grain of the National Education Policy to promote mother tongue in technical education, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has said there is no plan to teach medicine courses in Hindi or regional languages including Odia.
The medical education regulator said it won’t amend norms to allow MBBS courses in languages other than English.
The NMC clarification came after a recent announcement by the Madhya Pradesh government to offer MBBS and paramedical courses in Hindi. The Uttar Pradesh government had also expressed a similar intent.
President of NMC’s Undergraduate Medical Education Board Aruna V Vanikar said no state government has so far approached the commission with a proposal to teach MBBS in their regional language. Besides, it also won’t be feasible, she added.
“The rules do not approve teaching-learning MBBS in any other language other than English and there is no plan to change the existing norms,” Vanikar was quoted as saying by The New Indian Express.
“If any state government goes ahead and introduces such a course, it will not be recognised by the NMC,” she added.
