No Woman Can Be Forced To Work Beyond 7 PM In This State
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has mandated that no woman can be forced to work after 7 pm and before 6 am at a factory without her written consent. And, if a woman does agree to work at night, she has to be provided free transport and food by the employer.
In a notification issued by the Yogi Adityanath government, no female worker’s employment can be terminated if she refuses to work such hours.
Factories in Uttar Pradesh also have to ensure that at least four women must be working in the premises together between 7 pm and 6 am.
Further, appropriate steps have to be taken to prevent sexual harassment, while washrooms, drinking facilities and changing rooms have to be provided.
According to the National Family Health Survey, the number of working males in the 15-49 age group in India is three times that of females.
UP (17%) is among three states with lowest working women. Bihar is at the bottom with 14% while Assam has 18%.
