Stockholm: The Nobel Prize in Chemistry for 2025 has been awarded to Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson, and Omar M. Yaghi for their pioneering work in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)—advanced crystalline materials that can store gases, filter pollutants, harvest water, and catalyze chemical reactions.
The laureates will share the prize money of 11 million Swedish crowns, and their innovations are hailed as opening “unforeseen opportunities for custom-made materials with new functions.”
Kitagawa is based at Kyoto University, Robson holds appointments in Australia, and Yaghi is professor at the University of California, Berkeley.
The award underscores global efforts in materials science to tackle challenges like carbon capture, water scarcity, and clean energy.
