Nor’wester Impact To Last For 4-5 Days; Orange Alert Continues In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Nor’wester or thunderstorm activity is likely to continue for another 4-5 days in Odisha with rain, lightning, isolated hail and gusty surface wind in some districts, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday.

Orange warning for thunderstorm with lightning, hail and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph has been issued till 8.30 am on Tuesday and the districts that are likely to be affected are Cuttack, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Raygada and Angul.

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Malkangiri and Koraput. The rest of Odisha may also experience thunderstorm with lightning, the IMD said in its midday bulletin.

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm may occur at many places in the state during this period, it added.

Yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph has been sounded for another three days with hailstorm alert for some places on April 27, following which there is likely to be a decrease in thunderstorm activity.

On April 28, thunderstorm with lightning is very likely at one or two places in Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Khurda, Kandhamal, Boudh, Nayagarh and Keonjhar, the MeT said.
