Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of moderate thunderstorm/lightning with surface wind speeding reaching 40 to 50 kmph at most places in four districts of Odisha till 6.30 pm on Monday.
Orange warning has been issued for Gajapati, Jajpur, Rayagada and Cuttack.
In the midday bulletin, the weather agency had forecast thunderstorm, lightning with surface wind speed reaching 40- 50 kmph gusting to 60kmph in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, and Gajapati districts till Tuesday morning.
Damage may be caused to standing crops, banana trees, loose/unsecured/vulnerable structures due to strong winds in these districts. People have been advised to move to safer places during the thunderstorm activity to protect themselves from lightning, it said.
It further informed about thunderstorm with lightning, surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50kmph at one or two places in Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, and Sambalpur districts during the period.
