Bhubaneswar: Academic and social scientist Prof Digambar Mishra breathed his last in the US on Tuesday (April 15). He was 86.
He had served as professor and chair of Political Science Department at Miles College in Birmingham, Alabama, since 1981.
Born on May 8, 1938, at Kamalpur village in Odisha, Mishra dis his masters from Utkal University here in 1967. He then pursued Master of Public Administration at University Alabama in 1975 and completed Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science, University Alabama, in 1980.
His life’s work has inspired countless individuals, leaving an indelible mark on the academic community.
Mishra also served as President of the Odisha Society of the Americas (OSA) from 1991 to 1993. His leadership during this period significantly contributed to the Odia community in North America, and his broader impact was recognised in 2006 when he received the Distinguished Odia Award from the Non-Resident Odia Facilitation Centre (NROFC).
He is survived by his wife Josna Misra, his son Anoop, daughter-in-law Manisha, daughter Likun , son-in-law Kumar and three grandchildren.
