Bhubaneswar: Eminent poet from Odisha Ashutosh Parida has been selected for prestigious Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award for the year 2023 for his poetry collection, “Aprastuta Mrutyu’ (Unprepared Death).
A total of 24 awards for 24 languages were announced by secretary K Srinivasrao at Sahitya Akademi Auditorium in New Delhi on Wednesday afternoon. The awardees will be receive a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and a copper shield each.
Parida was born in February 1946 in Kendrapara. He completed BTech from erstwhile REC, Rourkela. He received his PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and worked as a scientist at CSIR-IMMT, Bhubaneswar.
With his eleven collection of poetry and a book of essays, he later established himself as a committed writer in Odia literature.
For his literary contribution, Parida has been conferred with several awards and honours, including Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award, Bhanuji Rao Memorial Award, Sachi Routray Kabita Samman, and Satyabadi Sahitya Samman.
Parida won the Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award for his poetry collection ‘Ipsita Krodha’ in 1990. His poems have also been translated into English, Hindi and Bengali languages.
He lives in Bhubaneswar.
