Puri: A notorious criminal was injured in an encounter with police at Chainata under Sadar police limits in Puri district late on Tuesday.
A team of Kumbharapada police conducted raids at the Marine Drive near Konark following a tip-off that the criminal identified as Kalia Muduli, a resident of Baseli Sahi in the district, was planning to commit a crime in the area. Kalia opened fire on cops, who chased him near Ramachandi temple. In retaliation, policemen fired on him and he sustained bullet injuries on his right leg. Kalia was rushed to Puri district headquarters hospital and later
shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after his condition deteriorated, a police officer informed.
The police were on the look out for the criminal for his alleged involvement in a bombing incident that took place near Market Square in the district on July 9. Several cases criminal cases are pending against him at different police stations in the district.
