Cuttack: Police on Sunday nabbed a notorious criminal, identified as Sushant Sahu alias Lipu, following an encounter at Salepur in Odisha’s Cuttack district late on Saturday.
According to sources, a police team raided Asureswar playground last night when Sahu along with one of his associate was plotting a dacoity. The accused fired two rounds in a bid to escape from the spot but was injured in the retaliatory firing by police. His associate, however, managed to escape.
Sahu was later admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack with a bullet injury in his left leg. His condition is said to be stable. One mobile phone, a firearm and some other articles were seized from him.
Some police personnel also sustained minor injuries in the encounter, the sources added.
More than 54 cases are reportedly pending against Sahu at various police stations.
