Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough, a notorious scammer accused in a multi-crore fraud was arrested by the CBI from Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
The fraudster, identified as Dwibendu Maharana of Cuttack district in Odisha, is accused of orchestrating a massive investment scam involving crores of rupees, was caught upon his return from abroad. He is accused of being involved in massive financial fraud in New Delhi.
As per official sources, a Lookout Circular (LOC) had been issued previously to nab Dwibendu, who had been evading arrest for a long time. Acting on the alert, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel intercepted him during routine checking and took him into custody.
Following his detention, Dwibendu was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team from New Delhi for further interrogation.
The accused was involved in fake financial investment schemes. He had been evading arrest for the past several years. He had arrived at Bhubaneswar airport from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia when he was nabbed by the CISF personnel.
Several raids were conducted earlier at Dwibendu’s residence in Cuttack by the CBI which wanted to arrest him.
It is also alleged that he duped some people on the pretest of providing job and houses.
