Bhubaneswar: Plus II students appearing for Annual Higher Secondary Examination (AHSE) under the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Odisha, will now get an opportunity to increase their marks through an improvement examination in one subject.
This initiative, modelled after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) system, will be implemented from the current academic year.
The examination committee of the CHSE approved the move in a meeting on Monday. However, students, who have successfully passed the main board examination, will be eligible to appear for the improvement examination, the result of which will be declared within two months.
Controller of examination, CHSE, Prashant Kumar Paridas said that the council had received numerous representations over the past three sessions urging for such a provision, similar to CBSE’s approach for Classes 10 and 12. He added that a student, who wants to improve their academic performance and overall scores, will be allowed to reappear in one particular subject.
Those who fail the annual exam will not qualify and must instead pursue the supplementary examination route. Both exams will be conducted simultaneously after completion of the AHSE. Those, who seek to improve their scores, will have to apply for the improvement test within 15 days of the declaration of the Plus II results.
The Plus II exams are scheduled to conclude on March 25 and evaluation of answer scripts will begin in two phases from April 2. The results are expected to be published by the third week of May.
The new rule is expected to benefit students aiming for better performance in competitive exams or higher education admissions by allowing targeted score improvements without repeating the entire board.
