Bhubaneswar: With a day left for campaign to end for Nuapada Assembly pypoll, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday held a mega roadshow and addressed a rally accusing Biju Janata Dal (BJD) of neglecting tribals during its 24-year rule.
During his whirlwind tour of the constituency, Majhi sought votes Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate jay Dholakia after offering prayers at the Sunadei Temple.
While listening to the grievances of the local people, the Chief Minister expressed the state government’s commitment to all-round development of Sunabeda region in Nuapada.
Steps will also be taken for the establishment of a college and upgradation of the existing government hospital in the region, said Majhi.
Mounting a stinging attack on the previous BJD government, he blamed the 24-year rule of Naveen Patnaik for the backwardness of Sunabeda region.
“Though BJD ruled the state for over 24 years, it failed to do anything for the development of Sunabeda. The tribal people of the region were denied the basic facilities during the BJD rule. The regional party as well as its supremo Naveen Patnaik owe an answer to the people of Sunabeda for neglecting them,” the Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister also slammed Patnaik, a five-time former Chief Minister and the sitting Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Odisha Assembly, for his ‘inability’ to communicate in Odia. “Patnaik could not speak in Odia during the 24 years of BJD rule in the state. He even did not visit Sunabeda during his long tenure as Odisha Chief Minister. Now, he has come here to seek votes for BJD candidate,” Majhi said.
