Cuttack: The district administration has sealed a private nursing home at Mangalabag in Odisha’s Cuttack city for allegedly being run without proper fire clearance.
The health facility has reportedly been operating in Malla Sahi area of Mangalabag for the last 45 years. It was earlier noticed after repeatedly failing to produce valid certificates under fire safety and the Clinical Establishments (Regulation and Registration) Act.
On Wednesday evening, the administration officials again inspected the hospital premises and found that it was lacking proper fire and clinical safety arrangements or certificates. Subsequently, it was sealed.
“The nursing home did not obtain the required fire safety licences despite being served several notices since 2015,” Additional District Collector Dibyalochan Mahantam told the media.
Refuting the allegation, the hospital owner stated that electrical rewiring was done and fire safety measures installed on the premises, while claiming that the facility only functioned as a consultancy.
“No surgical or medical procedures have been done here for last several years but the officials are not allowing me to enter my own building,” he alleged.
Notably, a major fire mishap had occurred at Trisha Child Care in Telenga Bazar under Purighat police limits in July last year.
Following which, the Orissa High Court in January this year directed the state director general of Fire Services, Home Guards and Civil Defence to conduct a fire safety audit of hospitals, both in public and private sector, in the state and file a detailed affidavit on their status.
