OAS Officer Under Odisha Vigilance Lens; Caught With Rs 5 Lakh ‘Ill-Gotten’ Cash

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths recovered over Rs five lakh from OAS officer Akhyamita Kartik during a special operation conducted on Thursday following receipt of allegation of collection of a huge amount of bribe.

A Vigilance team carried out the operation on receipt of credible input regarding collection of a huge bribe amount illegally as PC by Akhyamita Kartik, Golamunda Block Development Officer (BDO) in Kalahandi district and her movement towards Koraput, official sources said
The Vigilance team intercepted her near Jaring in between Bhabanipatna-Junagarh and cash of over Rs 5 lakh was recovered and seized.

She is being interrogated to ascertain the source of the cash. Searches have been launched at her locations in Koraput and Kalahandi. Further details are awaited.

Official sources said that she was earlier suspended for misappropriation of covid funds while posted at Kosagumuda.

When she was Tehsildar Gunupur also, the district administration had filed police complaint against her for misappropriation of Red Cross funds, they added.
