ODI World Cup Record: Glenn Maxwell Smashes 40-Ball Century; Check Fastest 100s
New Delhi: Australia’s Glenn Maxwell smashed the fastest century in ODI World Cup history when he reached three figures in just 40 balls against The Netherlands here on Wednesday.
‘Mad Max’, as he is nicknamed, went berserk at Ferozeshah Kotla after arriving at the crease with just 11 overs left in the Australian innings. He manufactured unbelievable shots and struck 9 fours and 8 sixes to guide the Aussies to a mammoth 399/8.
Maxwell rewrote South African Aiden Markram’s record of 49-ball hundred, achieved at the same venue in the ongoing tournament on October 7.
Maxwell’s effort is the fourth-quickest century in all ODIs. South Africa’s AB De Villiers holds the record for getting to an ODI hundred 100 in a mere 31 balls – against the West Indies in January 2015.
