Odia Groom Stages Unique Protest Against Fuel Price Hike, Cycles To His Marriage Venue In Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: Wedding is once-a-lifetime event and couples go the extra mile to make it memorable. Some spend while some find unique ways like scuba-diving or even paragliding to tie the knot. This groom from Bhubaneswar used the occasion of his marriage to send across a message on rising fuel prices.
Subhranshu Samal of Unit-III area in the city chose to ride a bicycle to his wedding venue instead of car.
Subhranshu’s family was preparing for an extravagant baraat when they had to give up their plans after he told them that he wanted to ride a bicycle during the procession (baraat).
Surprised with his decision, Subhranshu’s parents wished to know the reason. Subhranshu said the frequent hike in fuel prices is burning a hole in the common man’s pocket and affecting monthly budgets so he wanted to draw the attention of the administration by taking out a marriage procession on his bicycle.
The decision was taken and on the D-Day Subhranshu rode a bicycle with no vehicles or high-decibel DJ sound. Even the baraatis accompanied him on foot.
“The bride’s family members were also informed they also welcomed the move. We were amazed by the response and acceptance of people. A number of people joined our baraat and even took selfies with me during the procession,” Subhranshu told local media channels.
