Bhubaneswar: Popular Odia theatre actor Piyush Tripathy suddenly felt unwell and collapsed on stage during a late-night performance with Singhabahini troupe at Basupali village in Odisha’s Debagada district.
According to sources, the incident took place around 3.40 am and organisers and spectators rushed him to the nearby Community Health Centre at Barkote in a private vehicle without waiting for an ambulance. Doctors there attributed the severe dizziness and collapse to acute dehydration due to low fluid levels. Following primary treatment, Tripathy’s condition stabilised and was moved to Barkote Dak Bungalow, with plans for follow-up medical care and comprehensive scanning at the Debagada District Headquarters Hospital.
Tripathy, widely known for his powerful dialogue delivery and emotionally charged performances, had resumed stage performance after a Bhubaneswar court in January lifted an interim restraining order against him following allegations of violation of a two-year contractual agreement with Surya Mandir Natya Anushthan.
