Nuapada: The Forest Department on Sunday arrested three persons for killing a wild boar, using explosives, at Sirli village under Khariar forest division in Odisha’s Nuapada district.
Six chocolate bombs, Porcupine quills, 55 metal spikes, sharp-edged weapons like axes, and bird snares, along with wild boar meat were seized from them. The trio – Antaram Majhi, Tejaraj Majhi and Indramani Majhi- was nabbed while selling the meat for Rs 400 per kg.
The seized bombs were safely defused by the local police’s bomb disposal squad to prevent any further risk.
Assistant conservator of forests (ACF) of Khariar territorial division Md Mustafa Saleha explained that the bombs are made in the shape of balls using gunpowder. Egg is applied once these get hardened to lure boar. “The bomb explodes when the boar chews the balls mistaking it for some kind of food, resulting in instant death,” he said.
The ACF added that chocolate bombs can also explode if people accidentally step on them.
