Odisha: Accused Govind Sahu Took Mamita To Manikeshwari Temple; Know Why

Balangir: The veil over the murder of Mamita Meher, a schoolteacher of Sunshine English Medium School in Odisha’s Kalahandi district, is slowly getting lifted.

While police claimed that the prime suspect, Govind Sahu, has confessed to the crime, his further questioning has revealed the consequence of the events leading to her murder.

According to police sources, Govind gave Mamita a lift in his car at Chandotara in Balangir district after she arrived there in a bus. They shopped at Bhawanipatna. He then took her Manikeshwari Temple to extract a promise that she wouldn’t disclose his illicit affair but she didn’t agree.

Govind then decided to kill her.

This was revealed during his interrogation in police custody, which went on late into the night on Wednesday.

While DIG (North range) Deepak Kumar and SP have reached the crime scene for spot verification on Thursday, the crime scene recreation with Govind seems unlikely with BJP calling for a 12-hour Balangir Bandh.

His associate Radhe and college clerk are also likely to be quizzed to ascertain the involvement of other persons in the crime, the sources added.

On October 20, the DIG said that Govind had plotted to kill Mamita since she had threatened to expose his extra-marital affair. “He killed her either by smothering or strangulating inside the car while they were returning from Bhawanipatna to Kegoan. The cause of the death is being verified,” he said.
