Bhubaneswar: Amid the possibility of the formation of a cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal by October 27, the Odisha government has geared up to deal with any eventuality.
As a low-pressure area has already formed over the Bay, the state government has made all necessary preparations to deal with any weather conditions, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari told reporters on Friday
He said the administration is prepared to deal with any adverse situation as Odisha is prone to natural disasters. Special instructions have been issued to the departments like Energy and Health to ensure rapid response in the event of any emergency.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Odisha’s southern, interior, and western regions are likely to experience moderate to heavy rain as a result of a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.
Stating that the state government is closely coordinating with departments like Agriculture and Energy, Pujari said all precautionary steps have been taken to protect the lives and properties of the people.
Cyclones often cause power outages and damage to standing crops as well as plantations. Therefore, the state government is in touch with the departments concerned.
While preparedness planning is done by the Revenue Department based on weather forecasts, the district administration executes it by giving adequate protection to the people and by evacuating them from vulnerable areas to safe places in time, Pujari said.
