Koraput: In an effort to regulate tourism, the Koraput District Administration has prohibited visitors from bringing outside tents for overnight stays at picturesque Deomali, the highest peak in Odisha, located in Pattangi block.

A notice has been issued by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) banning outside tents for overnight stay at Deomali. The aim is to streamline camping activities while maintaining safety and order in the popular tourist site.

Officials said Deomali attracts hundreds of tourists daily, both from Odisha and other states, who visit to enjoy the scenic beauty and spend the night camping under the stars.

It has been a common practice for visitors to carry their own tents and other camping equipment for overnight stays and to witness the sunrise the next morning.

As per the new directive, tourists will no longer be allowed to bring tents or camping materials from outside. The Kotia Gram Panchayat has arranged to provide tents at affordable rates for visitors, ensuring a controlled and safe camping environment.

The notice also warns that any violation of this rule will attract strict action, including a fine of Rs 5,000. The administration has stressed that the measure is intended to promote organized tourism, ensure safety, and protect the natural environment of Deomali.

Authorities have urged tourists to cooperate with the regulations to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience at the hill station.
