Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Wednesday approved a monthly incentive allowance ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 for in-charge principals of non-government aided colleges across Odisha, based on the location and nature of their postings.
The decision will benefit in-charge principals of nearly 641 colleges in the 488 and 662 categories and is expected to cost the state government about ₹6 crore annually. The scheme will come into effect once the official notification is issued, a CMO release said.
According to the incentive structure, acting principals posted within their home districts or developed urban areas will receive ₹5,000 per month. Those stationed outside their native districts will get ₹7,000 per month, while postings located more than 300 km away from their home or home district will draw ₹9,000 per month. Teachers appointed to geographically isolated or difficult areas will be entitled to the maximum allowance of ₹10,000 per month, with specific eligibility to be determined by a designated committee.
Under the new arrangement, principals posted within their own district or in developed urban areas will receive ₹5,000 per month. Those posted outside their home district will get ₹7,000, while those serving more than 300 km away from their home district or residence will receive ₹9,000. Principals posted in geographically remote and inaccessible areas will be eligible for the highest incentive of ₹10,000 per month. A committee will determine the categorization of postings for this purpose.
The Chief Minister expressed hope that the incentive will encourage teachers to take up principal responsibilities in colleges located in distant areas, thereby ensuring the smooth continuation of the teaching process in the higher education sector. The move is aimed at addressing the reluctance of faculty members to assume leadership roles in remote institutions, he added.
