Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly was adjourned till 4 pm barely seven minutes after it assembled on Monday, as opposition legislators created ruckus.
As soon as the House assembled for the day, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLAs trooped into the well, holding placards and banners.
While BJD members accused the government of curtailing the powers of elected representatives in the Panchayati Raj system, Congress MLAs alleged there was a secret deal between the ruling BJP and the regional party.
BJD legislators raised slogans near the Speaker’s podium alleging cut in the powers of Zilla Parishads, Panchayat Samitis, and Gram Panchayat representatives.
Coming down heavily on the government, Congress legislators also waved placards alleging a ‘secret alliance’ between the ruling BJP and BJD. They expressed their concerns from their seats, staging protests and displaying placards.
The 14 members of the Congress also voiced their concerns regarding a no-confidence motion that they had raised against the government earlier last week.
As the Assembly plunged into turmoil during the start of question hour, Speaker Surama Padhy adjourned the House till 4 pm. This marked the fourth consecutive day of adjournment for the Odisha Assembly since the start of the monsoon session on Thursday.
Notably, the House was in session for only seven minutes before being adjourned.
