Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Odisha’s main opposition party, is slated to hold its organisational elections in January next year.
Announcing this in Bhubaneswar on Monday, senior BJD leader Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak said that the organisational polls will be held next month as per the instruction issued by party president Naveen Patnaik.
Nayak, who is also the convenor of BJD’s committee for membership drive, further stated that the exercise for the induction of new members into the party is going on quite well.
The membership drive has been quite encouraging and steps are being taken to achieve the target by December 21. Thereafter, reports from across the state will be obtained and thoroughly examined by the party’s coordination committee chairperson Debi Prasad Mishra, he said.
After verification and scrutiny of the details, Mishra will submit the report to the party president. After that, the final list of members will be released, Nayak said. There will be one active member out of 24 primary members.
Membership drive can also continue after the organisational elections, he said, adding that ward committees have been formed in many places.
