Bhubaneswar: Top Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders of Odisha held an important closed-door meeting at the state party headquarters in Bhubaneswar on Thursday to discuss organisational matters and prepare strategies for future elections in the state.
The meeting, chaired by state BJP president Manmohan Samal, was attended by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, party in-charge for the state Vijay Pal Singh Tomar, several ministers, MLAs, district presidents, and key office-bearers.
The high-level huddle comes at a crucial time, with four Rajya Sabha seats set to fall vacant in April 2026. It also follows Manmohan Samal’s recent remarks on early preparedness for panchayat elections, even as the State Election Commission (SEC) has ruled out early rural polls.
Sources indicated that the discussions focussed on finalising the party’s strategy and probable candidates for Rajya Sabha polls.
Given its current Assembly strength, BJP is comfortably placed to secure at least two seats, while careful planning or alliance-building may be required to push for a third amid speculation of possible BJD–Congress coordination to prevent a BJP sweep.
“Organisational issues and the people-oriented work of the Centre and state government were discussed in detail by the leaders,” state party general secretary Biranchi Narayan Tripathi said after the meeting.
He said the meeting reviewed the party’s organisational structure, starting from the booth to the formation of district committees; formation of mandal committees and various front committees. A plan was prepared on how to complete all the work immediately.
Similarly, emphasis was given to the successful implementation and implementation of the “VB-G-RAMG” scheme at the grassroots level for the welfare and uplift of the poor.
Stressing that BJP is always prepared for elections, he said that the issue of preparing a roadmap for the elections to be held in the coming days was discussed in today’s meeting.
Sources said discussions also covered organisational preparedness for the panchayat elections slated for early 2027, building on recent reviews involving national leaders, aimed at strengthening grassroots coordination across districts.
