Bhubaneswar: The process for electing the new state president and national council members will begin in Odisha on Sunday, BJP state election officer and MP Pratap Sarangi informed on Saturday.
He further stated that Bihar MP Sanjay Jaiswal has been appointed as an observer by the Central Election Officer to oversee and manage the three-day organisational election, which will conclude by July 1.
Jaiswal will visit Odisha after the election notification is issued. “Odisha BJP needs a leader who can unite and lead the party effectively. Our internal democratic process guarantees the selection of the right candidate. The BJP is the only party where leadership is elected from the grassroots to the national level,” Sarangi added.
The electoral college voters list will be issued on June 29. Candidates can file nominations from 11 am to 2 pm on June 30, following which those will be scrutinized between 2 pm and 3 pm. The final list will be published by 4 pm when the candidates will be allotted election symbols. The voting will be held between 10 am and 12 pm on July 1. The result will be declared by 12.30 pm.
This election is also vital for the Odisha BJP, looking to strengthen the party’s organisational structure in the state, where its maiden government, under Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, recently marked its first year, focusing on development initiatives.
The BJP conducts its organisational elections every three years, which starts at the local level and culminates with the election of the national president.
In Odisha, elections for local, mandal, and district committees have already been completed. The party had announced names of newly elected presidents of 23 out of 37 organisational districts in January. It will become eligible to participate in the election of national president after election of the state party president.
