Bhubaneswar: The cyclonic circulation over north Andaman Sea & neighbourhood is expected to take shape of a low pressure over the same region by Saturday evening.

“It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify gradually into a depression over eastcentral Bay of Bengal on September 21 and into a deep depression over westcentral Bay of Bengal on September 22. Continuing to move westnorthwestwards, it is very likely to reach westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal near south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts around morning of September 23,” the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its midday bulletin.

While thunderstorm activity with gusty wind may continue in several districts of the state during September 19-21, heavy to very heavy rain may resumed under the influence of the system from September 22.

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds (40–50 kmph) at isolated places in Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamala, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds (30–40 kmph) at isolated places in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khordha, Nayagada.

Sept 20

Orange Warning: Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (40–50 kmph) at isolated places in Koraput and Malkangiri.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Kendujhar, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagada.

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds (40–50 kmph) in Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagada.

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places, accompanied by gusty winds (50–60 kmph) in Kandhamala, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri.

Heavy to very heavy rain & gusty winds at 40–50 kmph in Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Boudh, Kalahandi, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Khordha, Nayagada.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Balangir.

Sept 24

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places: in Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Rayagada.

Heavy to very heavy rain may also occur in Balangir, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall is also likely in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Baragada, Sambalpur, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Khordha, Nayagada.

The heavy to very heavy rain is expected to cause localized flooding of roads, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and the closure of underpasses, particularly in urban areas. The severe weather could also result in minor damage to kutcha roads, pose risks to vulnerable structures, and trigger landslides, mudslides, landslips, or landsinks. Agricultural sectors face potential damage to horticulture and standing crops due to inundation, and the rainfall may lead to riverine flooding across certain river catchments, the IMD warned.
