Bhawanipatna: A business of Odisha’s Kalahandi district allegedly lost Rs 1.79 lakh in four instalments to a cyber fraudster for a software update.
The victim has been identified as Narayan Agarwal.
According to sources, Agarwal had called the customer care executive of a software company for update related queries. While money was withdrawn from his account, he got no notification from the bank on the same.

On January 27, Kalahandi police had cracked a case of online fraud with the arrest of five people from Uttar Pradesh for duping a Bhawanipatna resident.
The fraudsters had swindled Rs 1 lakh by taking Rs 20,000 on five occasions from Google Pay and Rs 45,000 from the bank accounts by obtaining the OTP from one Gangadhar Subudhi, a senior citizen of Bhawanipatna Sharma Colony. They even took away Rs 1,20,000 from his wife’s account.
