Bhubaneswar: To ensure smooth recruitment and management the services of Excise Constables, the state Cabinet on Wednesday approved amendment to the Odisha Lower Excise Services (Employment Procedures and Service Regulations of Excise Constables) Rules, 2023.
The amendment, approved in the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, transitions the cadre of Excise Constables from Divisional Cadre to District Cadre, a decision aimed at improving operational efficiency within the Excise Department.
The restructuring addresses long-standing challenges in the recruitment and administration of Excise Constables by aligning their services with district-level requirements, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.
The Excise Department proposed these amendments to ensure smoother recruitment processes and more effective management of personnel across districts.
This reform is expected to bolster the department’s ability to deploy resources efficiently, enhance local accountability, and strengthen enforcement of excise policies throughout the state.
