Bhubaneswar: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai paid a courtesy call on his Odisha counterpart Mohan Charan Majhi during his visit to the state on Saturday.
Two leaders held discussions on a host of issues while focussing on resolving the long-standing Mahanadi water dispute between the two states through mutual cooperation rather than legal intervention.
Majhi emphasised on an amicable solution to the Mahanadi water dispute during the meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan here. “Odisha and Chhattisgarh are neighbouring states, which share linguistic and cultural similarities. The Mahanadi water dispute should be resolved immediately in the interest of the people of both the states,” he said.
Echoing his sentiments, Deo Sai said that the dispute can be resolved through dialogue. “Chhattisgarh government is in favour of an amicable solution to the issue,” he added.
The Chhattisgarh CM was in Odisha to participate in the World Water Day event.
In November last year, Majhi had stressed that his government was concerned about the Mahanadi water dispute and had already held discussions with his Chhattisgarh counterpart twice on the issue during courtesy meetings.
