Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi felicitated the contestants, who participated in the World Skill Competition, at Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that skills of children of Odisha have caught global attention and skill development will be turned into a movement in the state in coming days.

He said that a programme is being prepared to build ‘Viksit Odisha’ in view of 2036 and 2047 mission. “Our talented youths are our identity and they will be the real drivers of developing Odisha,” the CM said.

It is worth noting that 60 people from the country and 15 from Odisha participated in the World Skill Competition held in Lyon, France from September 10 to 15.

Among them, Amaresh Sahu of Deogarh district won the Bronze Medal in Renewable Energy, while Gedela Akhil of Gajapati district won the Medallion for Excellence in Water Technology.

Addressing the children on this occasion, the Chief Minister said that out of 60 contestants from all over the country, only 15 from Odisha took part, which is a great achievement. “This is a shining proof of the hope in the abilities of the children of Odisha,” Majhi added.

Referring to the CM ASPIRE scheme in the field of skills, the Chief Minister said that its aim is to make children employable in the industrial sector.

“Recently we have given approval for setting up 26 industries worth Rs 45,000 crore which will create 36,000 jobs,” said Majhi and added that skill development programmes have been decentralized and ‘Nua Odisha District Skill Center’ is being opened in districts.

With this the youths of an area can acquire skills and meet the demand of the local industry, the CM said.

On the occasion, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja said that Odisha’s skill development programme has a unique benchmark.

The skills of children of Odisha have been recognized at the world level. “So if our children are given proper training according to the industry demand, they can be qualified for global employment,” he said.
