Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday inaugurated badminton high-performance centre (HPC), ‘Shuttle’, at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
Assam Chief Minister and president of Badminton Association of India (BAI) Himanta Biswa Sarma and legendary badminton coach Pullela Gopichand were present on the occasion.
Speaking at the inauguration, Majhi said the Shuttle would not only produce world class badminton players but also put Odisha in international sports map. It has all the required infrastructure to host national and international badminton tournaments also, he added.
The badminton HPC has been set up in a collaboration of the state government, Pullela Gopichand Badminton Foundation and Dalmia Bharat Group.
Spread over 77,000 sqft area, the Shuttle has eight AC badminton courts and can accommodate upto 400 spectators.
Having a 200-seat amphitheater, the badminton HPC in the shape of a shuttle can accommodate as many as 36 players at a time.
Initially, 50 talented badminton players will be imparted training at the high performance centre.
