Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday announced plans for a Greater Berhampur City while attending the 42nd annual function of Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir.
He directed the district administration to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for transformation of the city while unveiling a series of ambitious infrastructure and urban development projects.
Highlighting the pivotal role of Ganjam district and Berhampur in the growth of southern Odisha, the CM said that 10 roads will be constructed in the city and nearby regions at a cost of Rs 52.17 crore to improve connectivity and for ease of living, and better traffic management. A six-lane highway, connecting Berhampur with Jeypore, will also be built at an estimated cost of Rs 6,000 crore, he added.
Majhi further said that Town Planning (TP) Schemes will be implemented in the city to provide basic services in a planned manner. “Two plans are in the offing. These initiatives will not only help to develop modern urban infrastructure on the outskirts of the city, but also benefit the landowners,” he said.
Food streets will also be developed at various locations within Berhampur Municipal Corporation area to promote the local cuisine.
The CM assured that more new projects will be rolled out in the coming days, emphasising that Berhampur and Ganjam will play the most crucial role in building a prosperous Odisha.
