Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is set to visit flood-hit Ganjam and Gajapati districts on Friday afternoon and conduct an aerial survey of the affected areas.

Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari is likely to accompany CM Majhi during the aerial survey to assess the damage caused by heavy rainfall triggered by Cyclone ‘Arnab’.

It may be noted that Ganjam and Gajapati are among the worst of 17 Odisha districts impacted by Cyclone Arnab, Heavy downpours continued to disrupt normal life in several parts of the state, aggravating the situation in deluged areas.

Meanwhile, the state government has intensified rescue, evacuation and relief operations in Ganjam, Gajapati and other affected districts to deal with the situation arising from the heavy rainfall.

The proposed aerial survey is expected to provide the state leadership with a first-hand assessment of the impact of the adverse weather conditions and the situation on the ground.

In Ganjam, the Chief Minister is likely to cover Asika, Sorada, Hinjili, Belaguntha and Bhanjanagar.

Officials said a central team is also scheduled to visit Ganjam and Gajapati districts to assess the extent of the damage and review the prevailing situation. The Central government remains in constant coordination with the state and is extending all necessary assistance.
