Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday directed the Crime Branch to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the Balianta mob lynching case.
Majhi issued the order during a high-level meeting under his chairmanship, after a detailed review of the incident.
The CM has sought stringent action against those found guilty.
Emphasising the need to prevent such incidents in future, Majhi directed Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP) Y B Khurania to remain vigilant and ensure strict monitoring of law and order across the state.
He made the point in no uncertain terms that police must take strongest possible measures to uphold the rule of law and maintain public confidence.
Chief Secretary Anu Garg, CM’s Advisor Prakash Mishra, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Hemant Sharma, DGP Khurania, Additional Chief Secretary to the CM Shashwat Mishra, Intelligence Director R P Koche, ADG (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar, ADG Crime Branch Vinaytosh Mishra, Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh and DCP Jagmohan Meena attended the high-profile meeting.
A young man was allegedly beaten to death and another critically injured in a brutal attack by a group of locals in broad daylight over claims of sexual assault attempt on two women in Bhingarapur area, under jurisdiction of Balianta police station, on Thursday afternoon.
Eleven persons have so far been arrested in the case.
