Bhubaneswar: The eighth session of Odisha Chief Minister’s public grievance hearing held on Monday provided immediate relief to several needy people, including a 7-year-old girl from Boudh district.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi sanctioned Rs five lakh for the treatment of the girl, Pratyusha Giri, suffering from a rare disease, and also assured a house for her family under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

Pratyusha, accompanied by her father Heramba Giri from Boudh, received the financial assistance from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) for treatment of xeroderma, a rare skin condition.

Notably, the family of Pratyusha had met Chief Minister in December last year. The CM, upon seeing the child’s condition, sent her to Capital Hospital first and then to SCB Medical College and Hospital for immediate treatment.

As the girl’s condition continued to deteriorate, the family, along with the child, met the CM again on Monday. Following this, financial assistance was provided to them. The CM also assured them of a house under Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana.

The session also witnessed the CM’s swift response to 16-year-old differently-abled Alok Kalase from Balangir, who was immediately shifted in an ambulance for medical treatment, with additional support promised through the CM Relief Fund.

Speaking on the success of the hearing, Majhi revealed an impressive 81 per cent resolution rate of cases since the programme’s launch on July 1, 2024. “Out of 8,031 complaints received in the previous seven sessions, 6,545 were successfully resolved,” he said.

He said resolution rates showed consistent performance, ranging from 90 per cent in the first session to 47 per cent in the seventh, with remaining cases under process. “Today’s session saw approximately 1,000 registrations,” he said.

He said 1,000 registrations included 30 persons with disabilities, who received attention on priority. The CM, accompanied by cabinet members and senior officials, personally attended to complaints and directed immediate action where necessary.

The Chief Minister encouraged people to first approach district-level grievance cells for immediate concerns, reserving the chief minister’s cell for more complex issues requiring higher intervention.
