Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has confirmed three sunstroke deaths in the state which continued to reel under sweltering heat.
According to the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), the fatalities were reported from Balangir, Sundargarh, and Sonepur districts.
As many as 16 suspected heat-related deaths were examined and three of these have been confirmed to have been caused by sunstroke so far. Four cases were negated after post-mortem reports, while the remaining are under investigation by district authorities.
Entire state, particularly the western region, has been reeling under intense heat, with temperatures soaring above 43°C in many places. The temperature in Jharsuguda recently touched 46 degrees Celsius
The SRC has urged people to avoid direct sun exposure between 11 am and 3 pm, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions. Schools in several districts have already adjusted timings or closed early due to the heatwave
