Bhubaneswar: Odisha Congress will not extend support to NDA’s presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu, Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Narasingha Mishra said on Thursday.
This came a day after BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik appealed to all members of Odisha Legislative Assembly to extend unanimous support to the ‘Daughter of Odisha’.
“I know her (Murmu) personally, our personal equation is also good. But we will not back her candidature as she believes in RSS and BJP’s ideologies,” Narasingha said.
“People of this ideology killed Mahatma Gandhi and Congress would never support them,” he added.
He also criticised Naveen for his appeal to all MLAs of Odisha and called it a gimmick. “BJP and BJD are like two sides of a coin. If CM has so much love for Odisha and Odias, why did he send a non-Odia to Rajya Sabha? Are there no deserving Odia candidates?” he questioned.
He further asserted that Congress has fielded its own candidate Yashwant Sinha for the presidential poll and the state unit will extend support to him.
