Odisha Congress Counters Bandh Bitterness With Sweet Gesture
Cuttack: The Congress has come with an innovative and “sweet” gesture to enforce its Odisha bandh on Monday.
Party leaders and workers distributed chocolates to commuters at Link Road square in the city, urging them to support the bandh called to protest rising fuel prices.
In keeping with the party’s earlier promise of a peaceful bandh, Congress workers were told not to harass commuters or enforce blockades.
“The bandh is being observed peacefully in Cuttack district. Our workers have been asked not to burn tyres or ransack vehicles while observing the bandh,” a Congress leader said. “We are getting more support from the public than we had expected,” he added.
The Congress has called the Odisha bandh from 7 am to 1 pm. However, emergency services including ambulance, vehicles carrying milk, media and examinees have been exempted from its purview.
