Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) launched a ‘Sankalpa Padayatra’ from Bhubaneswar to Puri on Tuesday as part of efforts to rejuvenate the party in the state.
Led by new OPCC president Bhakta Charan Das, the march aims at reconnecting with all party leaders and workers and strengthen the organisation’s presence at the grassroots level.
A large number of party workers and leaders participated in the Sankalpa Padayatra, which started from Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) soon after the arrival of Bhakta Das from Delhi.
Holding party flags and banners, the Congress workers proceeded to Shishu Bhavan Chhak, Rajmahal, Kalpana, and Ravi Talkies Square before reaching Lingipur in the afternoon.
After a lunch break, the rallyists will start again from Lingipur and head towards Pipili, where they will spend the night, said former MLA Debasis Patnaik, who heads the special committee formed by the PCC chief for smooth organisation of the padayatra programme.
The padayatra is slated to resume on Wednesday morning and reach Chandanpur in the evening.
After spending the night in Chandanpur on the way to Puri and having lunch at ‘Bata Mangala,’ the OPCC president will visit the Shree Jagannath Temple to seek the blessings of the Trinity.
After returning from the Jagannath Temple in Puri, the PCC chief is scheduled to address the media.
