Nuapada: A 38-year-old constable posted at Lakhna police station in Odisha’s Nuapada district has been arrested for allegedly duping a local man of ₹2 lakh with the promise of a government job.
The accused has been identified as Jogendra Bag, a native of Khaira village under Boden police limits. He had been serving at Lakhna police station in Komna block for the last two years.
According to police sources, the matter came to light after the victim, Amit Jagat (36) of Dankar village under Sinapali police limits, filed a complaint on Friday. Jagat alleged that on January 23, the constable promised to leverage his position to arrange a government appointment in exchange for ₹2 lakh, which was paid upfront. However, months passed without any progress or assurance regarding the employment. When repeated confrontations and requests to refund the sum went unheeded, Jagat approached police, prompting registration of a criminal case. Subsequent investigation, supervised directly by Nuapada SP Amritpal Singh, confirmed the allegations. The accused constable was arrested on Saturday and produced before the court.
