Odisha Police have collected Rs 1.84 crore fine from people across the State for violating Covid-19 guidelines. A senior officer in State Police Headquarters, Cuttack stated that there is no room for negligence and enforcement continues against social distancing, mask violations and huge congregations.

Police collected `19.75 lakh fine and seized 628 vehicles from violators on November 21, the amount was ` 19.5 lakh and 630 vehicles a day later.

Between November 13 and 22, 5,905 vehicles have been seized from violators across the State. At least 41 cases have been registered and 336 people arrested during the period, as per a report published in The New Indian Express.

The huge collection of fine points to the laxity of people towards the virus which continues to claim lives in Odisha as well as across the globe. People seem to have dropped guard and are venturing out of their homes thinking that the coronavirus threat is over, said a police officer and requested people to follow the norms strictly for their safety.

Unlock-6 guidelines of Odisha Government prohibit large social, political, sports, entertainment, academic, cultural, religious functions and other congregations till November 30.

As the fear of second wave looms large, several states as well as countries have implemented stricter guidelines and increased fines to save as many precious lives as possible.
