Berhampur: In a refreshing break from conventional rituals, a couple in Odisha’s Berhampur solemnised their marriage by taking an oath on the Constitution.
Preetipanna Mishra (40) and B Bhanu Teja (43) exchanged garlands and it was followed by marriage vows based on the Constitution of India. They also marked their special day by donating blood at a camp during which around 18 units were collected.
The couple had urged the guests to donate blood instead of giving costly gifts to bless them as a couple. Even Preetipann and Bhanu themselves donated blood after their marriage.
Preetipann hails from Berhampur and works as a system analyst in a private firm in Hyderabad; while Bhanu, who is from Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada, is a scientist in another company in Bengaluru. They fell in love after meeting at a seminar in the Telangana capital a few years ago.
“In 2019, I organised such a marriage for my son after convincing the parents of his bride. This time, I requested Bhanu’s parents to solemnise their marriage under the Constitution, instead of customary rituals. I thank them as they agreed to my proposal,” Bidyutprabha Rath, mother of Preetipanna, was quoted as saying.
“The Constitution is a holy book for every Indian. It is essential that the people know about the ideals enshrined in it,” she added.
