Bhubaneswar: A Special CBI Court has rejected the bail application of Chintan Raghuvanshi, Deputy Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), who was arrested by the CBI on bribery charges in Bhubaneswar.
A 2013-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, Raghuvanshi was caught red-handed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20 lakh. The arrest was made in Sahid Nagar area of Odisha capital, following a sting operation based on a complaint by a Dhenkanal-based mining operator.
It is alleged that Raghuvanshi had been accepting bribes on multiple occasions through a middleman.
The CBI action came after a complaint filed by Rohit Ranjan Rout, a businessman and mining operator based in Dhenkanal alleging that Raghuvanshi initially demanded a bribe of Rs 5 crore to settle a case against him. When Rout expressed his inability to pay the full amount, the demand was reportedly reduced to Rs 2 crore.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI set up a trap and apprehended Raghuvanshi while accepting Rs 20 lakh in the Sahid Nagar area of Bhubaneswar.
Further investigation in the case is in progress.
