Odisha: COVID-19 Still Lurking About In Community, Warns Health Department

Bhubaneswar: Despite the declining COVID graph, a Health Department official warned on Saturday that the deadly virus continues to lurk in the community.

“It is observed that there is a decline in the caseload and the test positivity rate in all the districts of Odisha. But it is a fact that the virus is not completely eradicated as it is still lurking about in the community. Hence, the people, who have recovered from COVID-19 and who are not infected by the virus, must strictly adhere to COVID appropriate behaviour,” Director, Health Services Bijay Mohapatra told the media here.

Referring to the COVID-19 situation in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack where the caseloads are much higher compared to the rest of the state, Mohapatra said the state government will deploy more enforcement teams to contain the spread of the virus.

Praising the Centre’s preparation for the possible outbreak of a third wave, Mohapatra said the duration of each wave lasts for around 3-4 months. The state government has to remain alert for the third wave and people should also be responsible, he added.

“The state government is ready for the third wave. The surveillance teams are kept on alert while the number of tests has been substantially increased for the early detection of the virus. Apart from this, the vaccination drive is underway in proportion to the vaccines received from the Centre,” he pointed out.
